Just about recovered from stag night. Finally.

Lots of silly fun was had, and everybody seemed to get on well despite the somewhat disparate groups of people involved. A success.



Am now collapsed at home. People are watching Legend around me. Not sure why. Thought at first I hadn't seen it, but on further viewing I think I'd just wiped it from my brain. Deary me.

On a vaguely related note, have suddenly recalled the works of Terry Jones (as an author), which I'd forgotten about. Anybody else remember Nicobobinus? Okay, how about The Saga of Erik the Viking? Great stuff. Must reacquire. For the benefit of hypothetical sproglets, of course...

Went to a "Cheesy Cheese & Wine party" yesterday, which proved to be only slightly cheesy, and not at all whiny.

Lots about cheese )

All in all, had a great time, and for once my stomach behaved incredibly well despite the (apparently) threatening concept of visiting previously unknown flats for partying purposes. As well as the cheese, I managed to consume a significant amount of alcohol (wine, port, sock, rasperry vodka...) and by the end of the night was talking quite a bit of shite. Hurrah!

Was tempted by an alcoholic angel (yay whisky angels!) into taking a whisky tour, which was informative and cheesy in a funny way and involved consumption of alcohol. And by the time I'd got out, lo! a miracle had occurred, for a bottle of whisky had materialised in my bag. Money had also materialised out of my wallet, but I'm thinking this is just a coincidence.

Anyway. Ardbeg 10 yrs. An early birthday present from me to me.

Went to the Jekyll & Hyde bar (Hanover St.) yesterday for [livejournal.com profile] shamenaught's birthday. Incredibly cheesy, but a good laugh. Their main selling point is their "seven deadly sins" line of cocktails, which I highly recommend. (Apart from 'Lust', which has Malibu in it. Urgh.)

Good for a change of scene, anyway.   8^)

The sky is absolutely lovely right now. I'm sitting in Appleton level 5 labs[0], and the sun's lighting up the underside of all the clouds a firey orange as it sets. An artist's palette of blue, orange and gray in the sky. It makes me happy.

Synod proceedings )

Synod ended at around half-twelve. I briefly considered proceeding to Mission, but decided I lacked the caffiene to get there while still awake. I may instead go to Neon today. I shall remember my earplugs this time. It is on today, correct? Anyone else going?

Karate was fun today; a smaller class than usual, which meant we got through stuff faster. Continuing on from Friday, more simple combination attacks/defences were studied. I particularly like "punch, reverse punch, roundhouse kick" as an attack. Must however practice my triple-punch combo, as I always seem to start with either the wrong hand or the wrong foot.

Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] deralte; further to our conversation about straightening the back leg: I asked the teacher about this (over a pint), and he replied that a straight back leg was indeed sub-optimal in the long run. He teaches the beginners the straight-back-leg posture in order to learn 'correct form', but this form should become less strict and more dynamic as the student progresses to higher belts. Oh, and one of the sequences we studied today did in fact include a kick to the uke's[2] front leg.

Lastly: I keep forgetting to spam on behalf of Zoga. 'Tis a middle-eastern sandwich & wrap café on S. Clerk street, opposite Lidl. £2 for a feta and salad wrap which is both large and very very tasty! Friendly people too. Next time you need a sammitch, try them.

I forgot to take the garlic schapps with me on holiday, and so it remains unconsumed. I have just removed the garlic and sampled the brew. 'Tis strong, but not unpleasant.
Colour is a pale yellow with a slight green tinge.

Odour is a clear and obvious garlic one, with some sharp notes that reminds me somewhat of vinegar or dettol.
A sharp, grassy pungence invades your nose on the first sip. It mellows out into a very nutty flavour, but the sharpness remains on the tongue for some time.

Who wants to sample, and when?   8^)

Edit: [livejournal.com profile] gominokouhai has sampled. Comments: "surprisingly smooth" and posits ginger ale as a mixer. Mmmm, ginger ale.

The Garlic Schnapps that I am currently infusing is actually turning out alright. It's gained a golden tint, and while the whiff of garlic once you open the bottle is overpowering, the taste has actually mellowed and rounded out a lot since I tasted it last month; it's taken the more subtle flavours of garlic as well as the obvious 'garlicky' taste.

Still unsure how to drink it though. Not quite a drink-on-its-own beverage. With a touch of tomato juice, maybe? Salt and lime?

...are good! Teeth were made for rending and tearing (well, some are, at least), and they were put to good use yesterday on burgers, steak (very nice), sossinges and ribs. Oueh[0], barbeques are indeed events which should occur more often.

However, am feeling a touch fragile at the moment. Can't quite recall how much wine was had last night, but I had a bottle, [livejournal.com profile] scattergather had one, [livejournal.com profile] gominokouhai and [livejournal.com profile] stormsearch had two or three between them... then [livejournal.com profile] figg turned up later, and I'm vaguely aware of two more bottles being produced. There was probably some polish being drunk as well... at least, the bottle is now empty, so somebody must have drunk it. Urgh. Head still feels like it's floating slightly, not quite in the right place...

[livejournal.com profile] scattergather hasn't emerged from his room yet. I recall the last thing he said^Wmumbled last night was "never let me drink wine again". And [livejournal.com profile] gominokouhai has to work today, and was up until morning with [livejournal.com profile] figg drunkedly singing Divine Comedy songs. Hmmmm. 8^P
