The Cancer Reasearch UK shop next to the supermarket proved to have an interesting selection of comic books, for some reason. Thus I have acquired:

  • Issue 1 of The Monolith, which looked interesting, but proved a bit too clichéd and DC for me.
  • Some sort of bastard-child series of The Authority; the one written by Robbie Morrison. Issues 1 and 2. Not sure about this; it's got this whole Watchmen thing going on about power and the abuse of it, but without the certainty of that title. It could prove to be good (not as good as the Ellis issues, naturally), but I'm not sure I trust the writer. Thoughts, anybody?
  • Issue 1 of Scars by Warren Ellis. Pretty much as grim as you can possibly get. I shall seek more issues only if my stomach feels that it can take it.
  • Mirrorworld: Rain, written by Tad Williams (that was what caught my eye). Great stuff, but sadly I hear that only two issues were ever produced. Ah well.
  • and finally the first three issues of Colonia, which is about as odd as they come; it's a shamelessly childlike parallel-world story with pirates (Arrrr!), mermaids, talking animals, and thouroughly wierd characters of the author/illustrator's own creation. Well researched and very moreish. I recommend. (Only problem is price-to-length ratio!)

I should really watch my wallet, though: comics aren't cheap.

Ping me if you're interested in perusing any of them.
