Okay, I know that episode was cheesy, and predictable, and contained inexplicable Gollum. But that climactic scene was really rather heartbreaking.

I don't know how many people are with me on this one, but... remember when you thought you were the only one? That you were a freak, a one-off, a stranger to your family and even your friends? And then something happens, you go somewhere new, and suddenly you realise there's an entire network of like-minded people?

That happened to me when I first discovered the internet, and specifically usenet. Other people who programmed for fun... who would have thought? And people with my warped sense of humour! People who actually read and watched science fiction (nobody at my school would admit to that). People talking about technology, and mysticism, and where they overlapped... people like me, in short.

Then it happened again when I started university, and met a lot of those people in person. I finally felt like I belonged... I opened up, talked to other people, started to feel like I actually had something in common with the human race.

Can you imagine losing that?

An excellent performance.

And on a more humorous note... (YouTube)   8^D
