Following my acquisition, a couple of days past, of a litre of white spirit, I have been chucking around lit torches dipped in such. It burns very nicely, with a bright white flame; slightly hotter and fiercer than paraffin, with a slight bluish glow when running out. Very attractive. (White spirit can be found in the paint section of DIY shops. It's very reasonably priced, but is not, I repeat not, to be used for fire-breathing.)
The best part was that my visiting uncle videotaped the session, and we had a look at it afterwards. It's very illuminating to see your own juggling on video, because it shows exactly which tricks are working and which aren't. Was rather taken with the effect of helicopters and reverse spins, but now know to work on getting them faster and snappier. Flourishes were even more impressive than I thought they would be - I'm very pleased! I've also been motivated to try to link a couple of simple moves together, so that I have some 'set pieces', as it were.

Managed to avoid becoming a roast potato, although my wrist still smells faintly of burnt hair. Yum!
