A particularly painful over-extended metaphor used by a political analyst on a BBC breakfast show (on the subject of MP expenses):

Presenter: But this is all a bit "after the horse has bolted", isn't it?
Analyst: Yes, the horses have bolted, but some of them are going to come back, and then we're going to have to shoot them.
