I recently saw this series of messages on the FreecycleEdinburgh mailing list. They made me giggle:
From: E— H— Date: Tue, 28 Feb 2006 11:07:39 -0000 Subject: Offer: Ubuntu Linux (Causewayside) Someone has randomly sent our office a copy of this Linux variant.
"Ubuntu" is an ancient African word, meaning "humanity to others". Ubuntu also means "I am what I am because of who we all are". The Ubuntu Linux distribution brings the spirit of Ubuntu to the software world.
Aside from the warm glow I feel at appreciating our shared humanity, this is utterly useless to us. I'll give it to anyone who wants to come and get it. This is almost certainly acceptable within the terms of the license as long as I also give you a hug.
From: E— H— Date: Tue, 28 Feb 2006 11:18:37 -0000 Subject: Taken: Ubuntu Linux (Causewayside) My offer of hugs has prompted an avalanche of replies*, so this has now gone.
* Ok, two. Sorry Dave, but I don't think you and I could ever really hope to make it work in this crazy world of ours.
From: E— H— Date: Tue, 28 Feb 2006 11:28:33 -0000 Subject: NOT Taken: Ubuntu Linux (Causewayside) It turns out we have lots of these. This not only means that I needn't have broken Dave's heart, but also that I can now conduct a more careful experiment.
If you're interested, please reply indicating whether you would like
a) Ubuntu + hug
b) Ubuntu only
c) Hug onlyNone of this should be taken as a guarantee that a hug will be provided.
It's that kind of low-level uncertainty that helps keep romance alive.

We also got delivered a box of 20 ubuntu CDs at the office.
If anyone want one, or 10, just say.
Strange -I did not succeed in persuading the technical director that we should migrate off of windows server 2003 or xp pro!
