Hallo all. Have kinda been putting off looking at Livejournal for a while, but I wanted to post today. Had very silly dream last night.

I was in a universe ruled by gods; ones that could be seen, worshipped and feared. There existed a certain temple at which, it was revealed, if you conducted a certain ceremony then you would be admitted to a competition arranged by these gods. If you succeeded in all the tasks they set you, you would be granted a wish. However, if you failed, you would die.

I was one of the people who had decided that to enter this competition. The first few tasks were difficult, but I managed to scrape through. (All the tasks seemed to be, for some reason, connected to juggling... but this was one of my dreams, after all.) The tasks got progressively harder, and many failed. Finally, I awaited the last task, with an unshakeable feeling that this would be the one that I would fail. As it was about to start, I looked up into the face of one of the gods.

On that brilliantly shining golden face was the same enigmatic faint smile that I had seen many times before, but suddenly I understood it. We were just insects to these gods, and they wanted nothing but to toy with our emotions and our hopes. The competition was fixed. The gods would not be so crude as to directly interfere with our performance in the tasks... rather, the gods controlled the very strings of fate (quite literal in this universe), those slight factors that we perceive as chance, but that determine everything no matter how hard we try. It was hopeless from the very beginning.

Realising this, I then perceived my own string of fate glowing gently between the god's hands, ready to be cut any second now. And seeing it, I saw that I could now control it. And in fact the entire fate of the universe was suddenly perceivable and in my control. I realised that I could do anything now, and so I rose to become a god myself, and slew the old pantheon without any effort at all.

Those interested in dreams may recognise this as a subtle variation on a lucid dream. A lucid dream is one where the dreamer realises that they are dreaming, and then takes control of that dream, to shape it in any way they wish. A dream, a story, a fated life; all these are similar in that there is an omnipotent being controlling the direction of the story. But this being may not be aware that they are the one in control; they may think that they are just another character, just another mortal, or that their dream is real life. In last night's dream, I didn't realise that I was dreaming... rather, I interpreted it as suddenly realising that I was not just another mortal, but rather the one true god of the universe. Quite a good feeling, I must say. 8^)

Well, that's all for now. Hi to everyone I haven't seen since before easter!
