We've just been Jehovah's Witnessed.

First time it's happened to me, surprisingly.

Accompanying reading materials were mostly benign... apart from one short paragraph suggesting that "Studies have found" that blood transfusions can do "more harm than good". Presumably bleeding to death is far more healthy.

There was an article in the New Scientist about blood transfusions being harmful a few months ago. A very similar article is up at http://www.scientistlive.com/lab/?/Medical/2008/04/24/20256/Harmful_blood_transfusions?/

Update
Hmm, if I'm not mistaken it actually is the very same article [newscientist.com].

Yeah, that would be the study they were referencing. Obviously they left off any bits about transfusions still being very much recommended for severe blood loss, haemoglobin counts below a certain value, etc.

What are the "special treatments" referenced by the article?

If someone doesn't want a blood transfusion for themself, I've no problem with that -- and if it means there's one less religious nutter in the world, so much the better. bBut when they try to prevent their kids from having blood trasnsfusions, that's totally not on and such people are obviously totally unfit to look after children.

Indeed. If the child died, I would consider it tantamount to manslaughter, myself.

I once got Jehovah's Witnessed while living on an island. They came by kayak.

"They Came... By Kayak"

8^)

That certainly shows remarkable persistence.
