Nothing is absolutely true or permanent in this world except that nothing is true or permanent.

If somebody is sure of one fact, someone else is sure to disagree. Even the most simple questions about our own existence turn out to be the most profound and arguable. "For every philosophy there is an equal and opposite counter-philosophy."

An onion is an onion is an onion is an onion... or is it? We can disagree about anything. Everything is true and nothing is. Any theory is supported by the world in general, even opposing theories.

Maybe we should abandon reason, philosophy, science and religion, and instead just use art. After all, art just holds a mirror up to life... Maybe that's better than trying to dissect it.

I don't know. But I think I have a working philosophy of philosophies;

Stand by your own beliefs, but realise that life is dynamic, and even your most heartfelt beliefs can change. At the same time, respect other people's beliefs, because what's true for you may not me true or relevant to them.

Yes, Alex. Everything is true and nothing is when you use hand-waving!   8^>

Btw, I wasn't serious about the art thing. I wouldn't ever be that idiotic!

Still, I got a few thoughts out on paper, and in a properly-constructed piece of writing as well. Introduction, argument, conclusion! I'm so proud of me...   8^D

The opposite of a trivial truth is a trivial falsehood. However the opposite of a profound truth is very often another profound truth. Eg. "Look before you leap" and "He who hesitates is lost". Well, it works for platitudes anyway.

That's what I'd say at the time. Now however I'm more logically-minded and have a suspiscion of 'profound truths'. Perhaps 'profound half-truth' would be better?
