The Core

...is the most craptacular Sci-Fi movie evarrr! A premise so ridiculous to be almost a parody of the genre, clichéd characters and plot, and hours of CG nonsense.

I rather enjoyed it.

Not seen it but I had the same experience with Van Helsing. All my friends detested it but when I finally watched it, I thought... well, I knew it had so much wrong with it, could have been SO much better, but I loved every minute :-) Probably just a question of not having high expectations and not taking it too seriously. Oh, and my being a contrary sod make have helped ;-)

As did I enjoy it. There's a lot of this kind of stuff floating about, zero-brained nonsense which gets on my good books, simply by being so dumb and enjoying the freedom which it gets, without insulting our intelligence.

Watch Deep Blue Sea for another good example. (I didn't have as much love for Van Helsing, though)

yay! deep blue sea - t'was the first film I ever saw on DVD at home (was more inpresed by the quality of the playback the the science content of the film) It was a good romp though!

Think both should be files under "independace day" along with AI and Day after tomorow.

A.I. is one of the great science-fiction parables of our time, and one of the most misunderstood films that Steven Spielberg has ever made.

I liked the fact that when approaching the core, they shoot into a giant crystal thing, then go walk outside in their pressure suits, as if they're not going to get crushed the instance they step outside.

... after trying to dig the tires out of the mud they are stuck in, they then *have* to get out before the cyrstal fills up with magma, cos that would be bad, I mean it's not like they're ship can travel through magma after all... why they just didn't wait for it to fill again and then just drive out is beyond me...
