I went into teh art shop last week, asking "Ummm... do you have a drawing board? Maybe with one of those sliding ruler thingies?" (I'm a geek; I need the ruler, otherwise it isn't a proper drawing board!). Turns out that prices start at 48 quid, and that's only for an A3 sized one! Ouch! I beat a hasty retreat, and started thinking...

  • Big MDF board from Homebase: 7 quid
  • Meter rule from art shop: 3 quid
  • Butt hinges (hehehe... hehehe...): 99p
  • Half a dozen good screws (hehehe): 49p
  • A few pairs of nice pins (okay, this is getting silly): 49p

Plus a few new saws, a rasp and file, and a big shiny toolbox, but I'm not counting those, since they're handy to have around anyway.

A lot of sweat and sawdust later, I have a drawing board large enough to fit an A2 sheet of paper on either horizontally or vertically, with a flip-out stand that raises it to a comfortable angle. Huzzah!

From the frontThe bottom, with butt hinges.

By the way, is it just me, or is there something strangely flattering to a man's ego to be walking through town carrying a hefty load of construction material?   8^)
